Hello, so recently I uploaded a video on Youtube – Interview with Kasia. Here is the link:
I thought I will do a review and my own feedback on how it go, how I improved, what overall happened during filming.
So I came up with an idea to film interview with Kasia and I wanted to make it one-shot video. I got inspired by Vogue 73 questions with celebrity videos and I decided to improve them and add my own touch. But what about the process?
Well, neither me, neither Kasia did any preparation. We just decided to film for her some shots for promos and later we started to film an interview. I honestly can say majority of it was improvisation and she was not prepared what to say, I was not ready with any setting or any camera movements. Here are shots of the first attempt:

As you may see there was no set-up on table, no fairylights on the stairs. Overall, the video was good but… Why we didn’t choose it (I edited it till the end even). Well, because Kasia wasn’t prepared what to say, there were some things repeating and in the very end I forgot the last question and I had to cut it. Originally, I did not want to cut but for that first video I made reverse effect and video looked all right. My hands were not shaking, the lighting and quality was a bit better. The shots I was proud of:

Watch the video I uploaded and you will see the changes. Kasia was really collaborative and she suggested to put her handmade candles, oils and other things on the table, so it would advertise them, she suggested to put fairylights on stairs. We also decided instead of 5 questions leave just 4. In the first video I was asking which products is more complicated to make, but we cut it off.
After we decided to re-film the interview it took us about 12 takes and only 2 last ones were the best (or at least I thought so). Those two last ones were different as in one we had sun light in other one was more cloudy. The one which aired was with cloudy background. On LEFT SIDE IS CLOUDY background on RIGHT SIDE IS SUNNY background.

I know it is a slight difference but for the end product it does huge difference. I chose less shakiness over better lighting as it was hurting my eyes to watch the video. Now… It will be easier for you to understand a whole thing that happened during second day of shooting with pluses and minuses:
+ Kasia was prepared what to say, her speech was much smoother and clear. She felt more confident and less stressed.
+ We had prepared a nice setting, we filled home with decorations.
+ I knew exactly what camera movements to make.
+ Me and Kasia were a strong team and I really liked our collaboration.
moving onto:
– Because my camera is about 0,5 kg and stick I put it on is about 0,4kg I got tired pretty quickly and climbing stairs up and down didn’t help. That is the reason why the video has a lot of shaky moments. Although, the video I uploaded had less shakiness than one with a better lighting. So I had to choose worse lighting but less shakiness. I didn’t notice shakiness until I uploaded video and started editing… That is a mistake too as I should have filmed and uploaded to pc to check it immediately as we couldn’t to re-film it again. Another thing I realized is to try to film it without stick, so I wouldn’t be so tired. Or take a breaks.
– Lighting, well, I thought that fairylights will increase quality for stairs scene, but it didn’t work out because it was cloudy outside. Next time I would have somebody to hold lighting and walk with us. Although, I really liked the change between downstairs and upstairs, so I don’t regret it.
-I knew that to film everything in one shot is not gonna be easy, but I could have done better and I made mistakes that could have been avoided.
Next time, I will be more prepared and I will know how to fix something if it is not right. Overall, I am happy of my customer and I am not happy with my own filming mistakes. 😉
I have to say that 2 promos for her business went much much better and I will share it when I will be able to.
❤
