HELLO
Everybody loves movies, obviously. Just some of us more prefer books, some of us more prefer films. I know for 10000 percent that my ‘favorite’ movies will change in time. But for now, a list of movies I enjoyed and what I liked in them.
SPOILER ALERT. If you haven’t seen the movie don’t read my brief about it.
Let’s begin from 10.
10. FUNNY GAMES. (2007)
Genres: Crime. Horror. Drama. Director: Michael Haneke.
I saw this movie while I was in the sociology club. We watched and talked about society. For some reason this movie left deep mark in my memory. I quite clearly remember the scenes and why it was so unexpected and unusual. The performance of both serial killers were amazing and after this movie you feel weird. There are always these movies that after them you feel weird and like an alien. These kind of movies are the best for me as films are here to change our perception, to help see things from the other perspective. I liked this movie also because nobody stayed alive. Serial killers killed everyone. Usually in films we are used to that somebody survives. But not in this story which makes me feel it is more realistic and possible in our daily life experiences.
Film Log Line: “Two psychopathic young men take a family hostage in their cabin”.
9. METROPOLIS (1927)
Genres: Drama, Sci-fi. Director: Fritz Lang.
I know this movie is really old. BUT. The effects, the editing, everything about it is breathtaking. It is long movie 2,5 hours. So, you can prepare some food or drinks with it. 😀 I would suggest the see this because of experience and for the inspiration.
Film Log Line: “In a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city’s mastermind falls in love with a working-class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences”.
8. WAR OF THE WORLDS (2005)
Genres: Adventure, Sci-Fi, Thriller. Director: Steven Spielberg.
This movie is my childhood. When I saw it I knew that I will like this type of movies for the rest of my life. Love the performance, editing, cinematography. Also, theme about aliens… Love it. Each time I see this film I learn something new. It is not only about aliens taking over the planet and survival. No, it is much deeper. About relationships, family, trust and love.
Film Log Line: “An updated version of H.G Wells’ seminal sci-fi classic about the an alien invasion threatening the future of humanity. The catastrophic nightmare is depicted through the eyes of one American family fighting for survival”.
7. THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER (2012)
Genres: Drama. Romance. Director: Stephen Chbosky.
I think somebody recommended to watch this…. But it was really emotional. I cried so badly and also I could perfectly understand main character. For me it was the story that really caught my eyes. Emma Watson here as an actress… Beautiful performance. After Harry Potter I thought it will be difficult to imagine her in any other role. But I was wrong. Overall, this movie is really sad and it makes you feel emotional. You should be prepared before watching this.
Film Log Line: “An introvert freshman is taken under the wings of two seniors who welcome him to the real world”.
6. NIGHT ON EARTH (1991)
Genres: Comedy, Drama. Director: Jim Jarmusch.
This movie made my laugh so badly and so much. I am not a fan of comedies. But this one, was sooo good. Especially, if you are using taxi you know that there is always some interesting experiences happening in them. Really relatable and down to earth movie. The only reason for it to be in sixth place is subtitles. Movie has conversations in three other languages and no subtitles. So you need to search them on internet by yourself and download them, or as me put them in front of your movie and half way watch the movie, half way read the text. My favourite story was in Rome with a passenger priest. I was crying of the laughter. Great great stories!
Film Log Line: “An anthology of 5 different cab drivers in 5 American and European cities and their remarkable fares on the same eventful night”.
5. CAPERNAUM. (2018)
Genre: Drama. Director: Nadine Labaki.
This movie I saw when I was volunteering in Vilnius Film Festival. I actually made a whole post about all the movies I saw in there. MY HUGE ADVICE FOR YOU: GO TO SEE MOVIES IN FILM FESTIVALS. Honestly, there you can find rare themes, truths, unusual feelings, relatable experiences. Loved this movie, cried almost all time. The thing is we are so obsessed with our environment and our own problems that we don’t even think what is happening around the world. Terrible things are happening. I know, there is not much we can do, when we are alone. If more people unite, more changes may occur. So, I like these kind of films as they make you think and see the other side of the world. In the end, we are all living on the same planet. We should do something about bad things and change it.
Film Log Line: “While serving a five-year sentence for a violent crime, a 12-year-old boy sues his parents for neglect”.
4. THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL (2014)
Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Crime. Director: Wes Anderson.
I really like actor Ralph Fiennes, so this is was the reason why I agreed to watch this movie. Well, cinematography, acting, story – everything is beautiful, aesthetic and engaging. The way story is told and how it was visualized it is fascinating. It is also an easy movie, time flies quickly and you don’t even notice the ending coming.
Film Log Line: “A writer encounters the owner of an aging high-class hotel, who tells him of his early years serving as a lobby boy in the hotel’s glorious years under an exceptional concierge”.
3. SCHINDLER’S LIST (1993)
Genres: Biography, Drama, History. Director: Steven Spielberg.
Overall, I really like documentaries or biographies. These genres are one of the best ones too. Maybe I will do separate top 10 of documentaries/biographies. So, this movie was difficult to watch. I cried, I didn’t want to believe and look at it. History itself is not a nice thing and people do stupid things. Anyways, this story is inspiring and makes you change your perception. Steven Spielberg is one of my favorite directors, his work makes an influence. What he did in this movie is divine.
Film Log Line: “In German-occupied Poland during World War II, industrialist Oskar Schindler gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis”.
2. THE CONJURING (2013)
Genres: Horror, Mystery, Thriller. Director: James Wan.
Okay, this might be unexpected, but I love this movie. Simply because it is based on true story and true experiences. The way I look at this film is different as for anyone else, because I am interested in this kind of things and I believe. I believe that in this world we have much more things we cannot see or prove yet. But everything can exist if we have a thought about it in our minds. This is the only horror movie that made me scream so much… I was scared so badly. If you need adrenaline, watch this. If you are not believer of paranormal things, then leave this movie for later.
Film Log Line: “Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse”.
1.THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (1994)
Genre: Drama. Director: Frank Darabont.
What I can say, for me this film is a winner. It does not have any particularly fascinating effects, editing or cinematography. But as we know – story is what matters the most. And story in this movie is more than perfect. Sometimes we want glorious, unbelievable stories, while in the reality we have usual and earthy situations. This movie shows the world we live in and that is why I feel it is relatable, I know most of us haven’t been to jail, but according to the way people think – we are all the same. We all have same doubts, wishes and thoughts.
Film Log Line: “Two imprisoned men bond over a number of years, finding solace and eventual redemption through acts of common decency”.
What is yours TOP 10? 😉
